KINETIK, the video art project promoted by the Lecce Gateway of the National Biodiversity Future Center, comes to a close on Thursday, April 16 at the CineLab “Giuseppe Bertolucci” in Lecce (Via Vecchia Frigole 36). Conceived to open a space for dialogue between art, science, and new generations around the themes of biodiversity and environmental transformations, the series is curated by studioconcreto and is aimed especially at children and young people, presenting works that intertwine contemporary artistic languages and ecological reflection in an accessible and engaging way.
The final event is scheduled for Thursday, April 16 at 6:00 PM, with the screening beginning at 6:30 PM. At the center of the evening will be Listening in the Dark (2018, 43’30’’) by Maeve Brennan, a work that, through a sensitive and rigorous perspective, investigates the impact of anthropogenic incursions on ecosystems, focusing in particular on the nocturnal habits of bats and how these are altered by the presence of wind turbines along their migratory routes. Moving between scientific research and storytelling, the film intertwines the voices of ecologists, paleontologists, and chiropterologists to explore the often invisible effects of interactions between human beings and the natural world.
With this third event, KINETIK concludes a journey that over recent weeks has presented three international video art works, accompanying audiences through an experience of viewing and reflection dedicated to changing landscapes, ecosystems, and the responsibilities of those who inhabit the world. The series is part of the broader program of activities promoted by the Lecce Gateway in preparation for the opening of the Biodiversity Demo Center, the hub currently under development at the former Convitto Palmieri, conceived to foster dialogue between research, emerging technologies, and public participation on biodiversity-related issues.
The initiative is carried out within the framework of the National Biodiversity Future Center (NBFC), the first Italian research center dedicated to biodiversity. Coordinated by the National Research Council, the project was created to study, monitor, preserve, and enhance terrestrial, marine, and urban ecosystems, transforming scientific research into shared knowledge, education, and innovation.
Project funded by NextGenerationEU and promoted by MUR – Ministry of University and Research, Italiadomani, NBFC – National Biodiversity Future Center, and CNR – National Research Council.
