Discovering the sea: educational workshops on marine biodiversity in Leuca

Understanding the sea means learning to observe the world with greater awareness. It is with this aim in mind that the series of workshops “Discovering the Sea: understanding, exploring, protecting” has been created – an educational programme designed for young people to explore the value of marine biodiversity and understand the connection between the environment, the local area and the community.

Through images, field activities and group discussions, participants will have the opportunity to explore the sea off Leuca, discover its species, understand its natural balance and reflect on the challenges involved in its protection. An educational experience that transforms information into active participation, stimulating curiosity, awareness and a sense of responsibility towards the coastal environment.

The project stems from a desire to promote an educational approach that combines knowledge with hands-on experience, offering useful tools to understand the complexities of the present and develop greater environmental awareness. Educating about biodiversity means, in fact, guiding the younger generation towards a more conscious and sustainability-oriented citizenship.

The workshops will take place at the Port of Leuca, from 21 January to 21 February 2026, and are aimed at young people interested in learning more about the area’s natural heritage.

Participation is free of charge, but booking is required.

Because protecting biodiversity starts with knowledge. And knowledge, like the sea, requires time, attention and exploration.
